2. Look at the title and the pictures. Who do you think the boy is? Who is the woman? What do you think she is saying to him?
- The boy is Jack.
- The woman is his mother, Mrs Trott.
- She is waking him up and telling him that they have no food or money, so he must sell their cow.
While Reading
3. Read or listen to the episode and mark the sentences as $T$ (true) or $F$ (false).
- Jack is working in his bedroom. — F (He is sleeping.)
- Jack and his mother have got bread and honey to eat. — F (They don't have any food.)

Before Reading
1. Look at the pictures and the title. Where is Jack in each picture? What is he holding in each picture? What do you think happens to these things?
- In the first picture, Jack is on the road to the market, holding the cow's rope.
- In the second picture, Jack is holding magic beans.
- He trades the cow for the magic beans.
2. Look at the pictures and read the words below from the episode. What do you think will happen in this episode?
- Prediction: Jack meets an old man on the way to the market. The old man offers magic beans instead of money for the cow. Jack agrees and runs home, but his mother gets angry.

3. Answer the questions.
- Where is Jack going? Why? Jack is going to the market to sell the cow because they need money to buy food.

- Why do you think the old man wants the cow? — He wants to test Jack's faith and kindness.
- What do you think is going to happen in the next episode? — The beans will grow into a giant beanstalk outside Jack's window.
